During Mark Slyter’s 20-year career, he has achieved progressive healthcare experience at leading health systems and hospitals including General Health System, Baton Rouge, LA, Mississippi Baptist Health Systems, Jackson, MS, Baptist Health System, Jacksonville, FL, and Greenville Hospital System, Greenville, SC.  Mark has a traditional career progression as the executive operations leader in small (56-bed), medium (146-bed), and large (651 bed) hospitals and then advancing to serve as the CEO in multi-hospital, tertiary and academic health systems.   What sets Mark apart from others is his ability to create and execute breakthrough strategies that revitalize organizations at an accelerated pace.   Mark has led teams and engaged stakeholders to deliver: operating margin improvements from 17% to 650% distinguished quality achievements by Leapfrog, Healthgrades, Magnet, and Solucient increases in patient satisfaction from 50% to 800% over $40M in net income turnarounds through process and performance enhancements during my career   These teams produced substantial improvements across a balanced scorecard in areas of quality, finance, value, growth, patient, employee, and physician satisfaction. Mark is a change agent and candid communicator who rallies key stakeholders to embrace new approaches and achieve a culture of excellence in patient-centered care.   Mark grew up in Augusta, Kansas, a small farm town near Wichita, and earned his undergraduate and master’s degree from the University of Kansas where he also played football for the Jayhawks.  He is a lifelong learner and completed his doctorate in health services administration from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016.   Mark’s wife, Lisa are happily married for over 9 years and the proud parents of two daughters, Catherine 7, Emma 5, and a son, Christian 2 years old.  His family is active in their church, kid’s school, and family oriented organizations like Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO).

  • President & Chief Executive Officer at General Health System

    Recruited to formulate and implement strategy to overcome significant political and operational challenges hampering GHS performance. Charged with stabilizing financially distressed urban hospital, developing a sustainable solution for its campus and partnering with a health network to position it as a more competitive regional player. Directed nine senior leaders, managed $1.1B ($400M net) annual operating budget and reported to GHS Board of Trustees.

  • President & Chief Executive Officer at Baptist Health Systems

    Recruited to manage daily operations of four hospitals and other BHS entities based on expertise in financial turnarounds, strategy development and physician relations. Promoted to CEO to lead system and all its subsidiaries. Directed a nine-member senior team and administered $1B ($380M net) annual operating budget. Reported to BHS Board of Trustees.

  • President & COO at Baptist Health Systems

    The President and Chief Operating Officer is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of MS Baptist Medical Center, Baptist Medical Center-Leake, Kings Daughters Hospital-Yazoo City (managed), Mississippi Hospital for Restorative Care and other Baptist Health Systems entities. In addition, the COO responsibilities include strategic and operational coordination across the health system. Report to the Baptist Health Systems President & CEO.

  • Administrator, Baptist Medical Center Beaches at Baptist Health

    Promoted to lead 146-bed acute care hospital with 755 FTEs. Served as administrative representative to hospital’s Board of Directors and Medical Executive Committee. Led nine direct reports, including two executives, and oversaw $350M ($99M net) annual operating budget. Reported to system SVP and COO, as well as BMCB Board Chair.

  • Vice President Operations, Baptist Medical Center at Baptist Health

    Hired to lead daily operations of service lines at 579-bed BMC and BHS system coordination for Baptist Cancer Institute, orthopedic surgery center, imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, pulmonary, neurology, endoscopy and rehabilitation services. Led nine direct reports, with oversight for 700 FTEs. Administered $550M ($290M net) annual operating budget. Reported to SVP and COO.

  • Administrator, Hillcrest Hospital and Patewood Medical Campus at Greenville Health System

    Tapped to revitalize the 56-bed acute care Hillcrest Hospital (HH), with oversight for 33 clinical and support departments (280 FTEs). Added daily management responsibility for Patewood Medical Campus (PMC), an outpatient surgical and diagnostic center, with 23 clinical and support departments (80+ FTEs). Led nine direct reports and administered $150M ($55M net) annual operating budget. Reported to GHS Chief Operating Officer.
